Stripe Launches AI-Agent Wallet for Autonomous Spending

Stripe upgrades Link to allow AI agents to make secure, authorized purchases on behalf of users using virtual cards and tokens.

The Rise of Autonomous Commerce: Stripe’s AI-Agent Wallet

Stripe has officially unveiled a major pivot for its Link digital wallet, specifically engineered for the age of autonomous agents. This update allows users to grant AI agents permission to perform tasks like booking reservations or purchasing tickets without ever exposing raw payment credentials.

The infrastructure leverages Stripe Issuing, which generates virtual cards for agents. These cards come with real-time authorization and granular spending controls, effectively sandboxing the agent’s financial footprint.

“The challenge with AI agents isn’t just intelligence; it’s trust. By decoupling the agent’s access from the user’s primary bank account, Stripe is solving the biggest friction point in agentic commerce,” says a lead blockchain researcher.

Core Features of the New Link:

  • Seamless OAuth integration for agent authorization.
  • Shared Payment Tokens (SPT) to mask sensitive banking data.
  • Future-proofing with upcoming support for stablecoins and agentic tokens.
  • Real-time transaction approval notifications via mobile and web.
The platform is designed to scale, with Stripe confirming that support for crypto wallets and stablecoins is on the immediate roadmap.
